Liska’s Role in Jewish Spiritual Heritage
Liska, established as a hub of Jewish cultural and religious life in the 1800s, holds an important place in history. Every year, thousands honor Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also known as Hershele Lisker, in Liska. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. By the late 19th century, the Jewish population of Liska reached nearly 3,000, enriching its cultural environment. Liska’s heritage resonates in neighboring communities such as Kerestir and throughout Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.
Preservation initiatives for Liska are driven by both local and global support.
